Grade Level Assistant Principal Meetings for January

Reminder

Please do not drop off items for your child during the school day. We will not accept homework, lunches, gym clothes, etc. We cannot disrupt class learning and we strongly urge middle school students to be responsible and independent.

 

School hours are 8:40am - 3:00pm.  Students may not leave the school building by themselves before the end of the school day. If they need to leave early, they must be checked out by an adult on their Emergency Blue Card.

End of 2nd Quarter

The last day for students to submit work for the 2nd quarter is this Friday, January 20th.  We encourage all students and families to check JumpRope for current grades and any missing assignments from the 2nd Quarter.  Please reach out to your child’s teacher directly if you have questions regarding their current progress.  A full list of email addresses can be found on the Wagner website.

Office Hours Reminder

As a reminder, if students need to make up a missing assignment, ask for additional feedback, prepare for an upcoming Learning Opportunity, or want to check in with their teachers, office hours are offered weekly during student lunch periods according to the schedule below.  Students should ask their teachers for a pass before coming up to office hours.

Nominate a Teacher!!

The Big Apple Awards nomination process for the upcoming cohort of Fellows for the 2023–24 school year is now open through February 28. You and all members of the school community are invited to nominate a teacher for the Big Apple Award.    

Nominations can be made by submitting the teacher’s name and school to the DOE All Stars website. Note that you do not need a DOE login to nominate a teacher through this portal, as individuals without a DOE login may sign in as a guest). Alternatively, you can email the teacher’s name and school name to bigappleteachers@schools.nyc.gov.  Please see the flyer for details.

Parents’ Night Out - Tuesday, January 31st at 6pm

Opportunities

 

8th Graders Interested in Music Production

Sonic Spark Lab, experienced through Cohere Touch, is a hands-on, project-based music composition program. This is for any 8th grader interested in music and self-expression.  This class provides approaches for turning creative energies into music.  For more details, please see the link.

Reporting a Positive Covid Case

All positive Covid cases should be reported by email to Ms. Kristen Oberlander at KMueller10@schools.nyc.gov.  Please include the following details:

 

  1. Student’s name

  2. Student’s class number

  3. Student’s last day in school

  4. The date of your student’s Covid test

  5. Type of test taken - rapid or PCR

New Attendance Policy

 

The Department of Education is implementing a new system to alert families when their students are absent from school.  When a student is marked absent from school, the family will receive a text message.  Please note that attendance is taken at 8:40 am.  This means that if your child arrives to school late, you will still receive a text stating they are absent. 

Students who arrive after 8:40am will be marked absent for the morning and present for the afternoon.  Please encourage your student to be at morning arrival by 8:35 each day. 

 

To Report an Absence

If your child is absent, please email your their advisory teacher and their guidance counselor.  Once your student returns to school, have them bring a note into the main office stating the reason for the absence.  The guidance counselors’ emails are as follows:
