TOP STORIES FOR THE WEEK OF 11/14
Community Service Opportunity
In partnership with Council Member Keith Powers, Wagner students can volunteer to clean up John Jay Park on Friday November 18. The group will leave from Wagner at 3:30 to walk to the park. Students can sign-up to participate in the ARISTA google classroom (join code: knbgrfw). A signed permission slip is required to attend. Permission slips are available in the Main Office. Participating students will receive 1.5 hours of community service credit.
JumpRope Check
As this first quarter comes to an end, we ask that you check your student’s JumpRope account to view any missing assignments. All work for Quarter 1 must be submitted by Friday, November 18th. 1st Quarter report cards will be distributed the first week of December.
To Report an Absence
If your child is absent, please email your their advisory teacher and their guidance counselor. Once your student returns to school, have them bring a note into the main office stating the reason for the absence. The guidance counselors’ emails are as follows:
6th Grade - Ms. Block - ABlock6@schools.nyc.gov
7th Grade - Ms. Onwudiwe - DOnwudiwe@schools.nyc.gov
8th Grade - Ms. Ibishaj - YIbishaj@schools.nyc.gov
Volunteer Opportunity
Finally, after a 2 year hiatus, Wagner Middle School will be re-opening its doors to 5th Grade Families for middle school tours. This is a time to show prospective students and parents/guardians how great our school really is. We are asking for a few volunteers for each tour to assist with monitoring the halls as well as answering any questions that may be asked along the way. If interested, please see the attached sign up link or email Kristen Oberlander at kmueller10@schools.nyc.gov.

Family Income Inquiry Form
All families, regardless of income, are asked to complete the 2022-2023 Family Income Inquiry Form (formally known as the School Meals Form) so that Wagner can receive additional funding. In addition, several public high schools use this information to give priority to students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch. You do not need to give income information if you are certain you do not qualify, however, the NYC DOE asks families to still submit the form.
Completing the form is easy and you can submit only one form for all children per household - Pre-K through high school. If you do not wish to fill out your form online, you can fill out the hard copy that was backpacked home. Please return it to Kristen Oberlander.
Again, filling out the Family Income Inquiry Form is very important to Wagner as funding is at stake. We appreciate your cooperation and support!
Please see the attached form to Complete the Family Income Inquiry Form online.

Gentle Reminders
Please do not drop off items for your child during the school day. We will not accept homework, lunches, gym clothes, etc. We do not want to disrupt class learning, and we want middle school students to be responsible for having everything they need for school.
School hours are 8:40am - 3:00pm. Students may not leave school by themselves before the end of the school day. If they need to leave early, they must be checked out by an adult on their Emergency Blue Card.
Children MAY NOT be checked out of school during their lunch period.
